Item details

Our sinfully soft & luxurious Superfine 100% alpaca yarn comes from our own herd of 30 alpacas who live here on our ranch. It is warm, lightweight, has a wonderful luminosity & is a perfect fiber for accessories such as shawls, scarves, cowls, pretty much anything that you would wear next to your skin. Alpaca is hypoallergenic and doesn't itch so many people who can't wear wool can easily wear alpaca.

Colorway: Beach Glass is a soft, luminous blend of aquas and blues, reminding me of the soft, time worn glass that washes up from the sea.

☼ Length: 250 yards / 228 meters

The twist of this yarn is very consistent and springy and is truly a pleasure to work with... It was spun at a local mill in Elizabeth, CO.

Our fiber is processed locally at Wild West Fiber Mill in Elizabeth, CO.

I hand dye all of my yarns here on the ranch using professional acid dyes which are then washed and dried before being put up in a skein.

Your yarn will come in a skein. If you prefer to have a center pull ball, you can choose that option at checkout.

If you need more skeins than I have listed, please convo me so we can arrange for a custom dye order

You can read more about our alpacas here ♥ https://www.etsy.com/shop/rollingeranch#about ♥ as well as on my blog ♥ http://rollingeranch.blogspot.com/ ♥

☼ Hand wash in cool water and lay flat to dry. This is not a super wash yarn...agitation can cause felting!

☼ Every effort is made to realistically photograph my yarns. However, different monitors perceive colors differently, as does the human eye.

☼ Hand dyed yarns are unique and colors can very from skein to skein even in the same dye group. For best results, alternate skeins as you are working your project.

☼ About Alpaca Fiber: Many times you will see alpaca yarn listed as Baby or, as this yarn is, Superfine. If you have wondered what this means, it has to do with the micron count (diameter) of the fiber. The lower the micron count, the softer the fiber. Baby does not mean it is from a baby alpaca.
The standard I use for grading my alpaca fiber is the following from the AFCNA (Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of N.A.):
♥Royal Baby: <20 microns. ♥Baby: 21-23.5. ♥Superfine: 23-26.9. ♥Adult: 27-31.9
As a point of comparison:
Angora Rabbit: 12 - 15 micron. Merino: 12 - 23. Cashmere: 15 - 17. Camel: 16 - 23. Yak: 16 - 23. Bombyx Silk: 10 -14. Tussah Silk: 23 -30

Please feel free to convo me with any questions.

Happy Trails,

Diana
