Ice Skating is perennially popular and the Triple Axel Skating Dress is the perfect pattern for her standard sized 18" doll, such as the American Girl brand doll. In the Janie Carroll Designs tradition, I've simplified construction and detailing to bring you a costume that is both competition worthy and SEW EZY!
Beautiful one-shoulder design pulls on easily; no messy elastic or fussy Velcro needed! Choose from 6 sleeve styles including sleeveless to ruffle shoulder to a traditional fitted long sleeve. There's even an option for a long sleeve with point that extends gracefully onto her hand. (don't forget simple instructions for a finger loop to hold this in place!) You'll love the beautiful fit as well as the flirty skirt and attached panty.
Choose a single 'swim-type' fabric or mix up fabrics including stretch lace overlays and skirts, stretch mesh, contrasting colors - you name it!
Skating dresses call for knit fabrics with at least 50% stretch. Fabrics with a bit of Spandex or Lycra fibers are ideal. Want to use something a little less stretchy? I've got all the tips you need to make this work, too!
Better still? All Triple Axel garments can be made with 1/4 yard of fabric. (Obviously, if you've selected a look with contrasting fabrics you'll need to allow additional yardage for that.)
Ready for my FREE bonus material? How about a few 'Knit Knacks'? This is an informational overview that will have you feeling more confident in sewing active wear knits. Move on to 'Finishing Finesse' for hemline and edge finishes in fun, new looks. Next up, how about 'Stylish Straps' for several fresh ideas for the optional shoulder strap.
Not feeling creative? The pattern test team really outdid themselves with fabulous ideas that YOU can borrow! They're featured in the included 5 page photo gallery! 20 garments with many fabric, trim & styling details. (some photos shown above were provided by test team members)
Altogether, it's 37 pages packed with instructions, photos, extras and inspiration!
As always, the Triple Axel assumes basic sewing skills but you'll receive detailed instructions with photos. I'll be with you from the first cut to the last stitch. I strive to include all the little details you need! She'll be out on the ice ready for the trickiest jumps in no time!
This listing is for a sewing pattern, NOT an actual garment. Photos shown are samples only, and may depict a few accessories that are not included in the pattern.
Test garments were designed to fit current American Girl brand dolls, as well as older Pleasant Company dolls and most other similar 18" dolls. Works for Maplelea dolls, with a bit of sleeve length added! I am not affiliated with any doll company in any way. PLEASE NOTE: The Triple Axel is NOT suitable for 15" baby dolls.
Immediate download is available after purchase. I am happy to answer any questions and can be reached by conversation through my etsy shop. Remember to print with size set at 100%. Your printer may note this as 'actual size' or 'no margins'. All these terms means the same thing and insure that your pattern will print true to size.
This pattern is for your use only. It may not be published, sold or shared. You may sell items you make with the pattern, but no mass production, please. If you sell online, I ask that you credit 'Janie Carroll Designs'.
The 'Triple Axel' is an original design by Jane Wilkes of Janie Carroll Designs. A big thank you to the members of my pattern test team; they are truly amazing!
