This is an example of a custom Juniper picture frame I made from wood harvested here on the ranch. Juniper is a very slow growing wood in arid regions which has beautiful color ranging from pale cream thru tan and brown to orange with a lot of character in the grain and finishes silky smooth and radiant. I kept this frame simple at 1 1/2" wide and utilized contrasting wood splines at the corners for strength. I wanted to showcase both the artwork and the beautiful wood. In retrospect, rather than using dark walnut for a contrasting spline, I would have preferred using Juniper and not had the spline look so dark and different than the frame. This frame was finished with a simple rubbed oil and wax single treatment.
Frames are available in any size desired, simply let me know the inside measurement of the opening needed, the width of frame desired and profile on the wood. Since this wood has so much character, I used a simple 1/4" round over on the outer edge and 1/8" on the inner edge. Frames can be furnished with glass and backer board, or you can add your own, accommodating your art and matting as well. I used a 1/4 x 1/2" rabit on the back of this frame, but can create whatever size and depth you need to hold the contents you plan to mount.
I would say the wood in this frame is typical of rather plain Juniper. The top of the frame includes some sapwood which is pale. Often, Juniper has a lot more wavy grain and color. Since I mill my own logs, I have quite a variety of lumber available and can furnish photos of wood to discuss what fits your desires in the creation of a frame or other wood project.
Since these are built to order, shipping time will be a few days to allow for manufacture, but should not require more than a week once a decision on size and material is made.
