Sweet Harmony Pattern for Birds in a Tree Crib Quilt. Folk Art baby quilt stitched in Primitive Style. Published by the Sunflower Pattern Co-operative. 32" x 39" $7 plus $ US shipping
Applique a pair of folk-art songbirds as a gift for a new baby, including a wish for a long life filled with sweet harmony.
Or stitch the date or the word ‘Harmony’ to make a perfect wedding present. No special occasion? Applique the word ‘Lunch’ and hang this quilt in the kitchen!
Our inspiration for this classic crib quilt was a detail from a large quilt full of images. We loved the simplicity of the vignette with the birds contemplating lunch. The original features the date 1875 and the name G. Knappenberger. It's now in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum. To see it do a web search for the words Knappenberger Quilt and I bet you'll find a picture.
The skill level requires some basic applique experience (there are a lot of grapes) but his is an excellent pattern for an almost beginner as the shapes are simple and few.
You also get a pattern for an 8x10" wool embroidered picture in the package.
Jean Stanclift made our quilt models from the patterns drawn by Karla Menaugh & Barbara Brackman.
