Natural beauty and modern design combine in this original chess set specifically designed for air plants!

Our set blends classic characteristics from traditional chess pieces with an open design that promotes air circulation and full body watering for the plants.

This combination results in a stunning, truly unique art piece that is both easy to play with and easy to take care of! Simply soak and dry the plants in their containers once every 7-10 days depending on your climate.

Full care instructions listed on my policies page as well as packaged with every set.

Each set contains 32 pieces that are hand padded with felt as well as 32 hand chosen plants. This set comes with a handsome 16 x 16 x 1/2 inch sustainable bamboo chess board that is water-lacquered and will look great on any surface!

Pieces Designed and 3D printed in San Luis Obispo, CA. Proud to Donate at minimum 1% of Revenue to the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo. https://lcslo.org/

Copyright, Patent and Trademark Pending.

*Disclaimer: I strongly feel that my containers provide a healthy environment that results in happy air plants. Therefore, if you purchase one of my sets and have issues with your plants, send me an email with photos of the set and plants that are struggling. We'll then discuss your climate and where you have your set located and I'll send you replacement plants at no charge!

While each set will feature 32 beautiful air plants, due to growing seasons and availability the plants will not exactly match what is shown in the photos, but will match up in each unique set. So, for example, all 16 pawns will have the same plant and all 4 horses will as well in your set.

In addition, slight modifications to the piece design shown may be made to improve them over time!

The pieces are 3D printed from a corn based bioplastic called polylactic acid (PLA.) PLA is harder to achieve a perfect surface finish with than some oil based plastics but we believe the trade off for a more sustainable set is worth it. While some minor imperfections may be present due to the nature of 3D printing compared to conventional injection molded plastic, if you believe there is anything unacceptable about your pieces, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will remedy the issue for you!

Thank you!

If sending to a cold climate area I highly recommend my upgrade to a 72 hour heat pack for your plants well being! https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/584172653/72-hour-heat-pack-for-cold-climate?ref=listing-shop-header-0 Otherwise I can send the piece without the plant for a discount.

FAQs

Airplants can survive in temperatures from 50-90 F, inside or outside in areas with bright light, but not all day direct sun. If keeping inside, keeping the set near a south or east facing windows is best, followed by north. Only place near a West facing window if you are sure the late afternoon sun is not excruciatingly hot! A rule of thumb is that with increased humidity, airplants can tolerate increased temperatures. So if it's going to be a scorcher make sure to water your plants!

The plants can be watered in their containers as they are made from a food and water safe, corn-derived plastic. It is imperative that you use FILTERED water unless you have very clean tap water as the minerals in harsh tap water can clog the pores of airplants' leaves. Ideally, soak the plants in a bowl of water once a week for an hour. If a longer time passes between waterings, soak the plants for longer but never more than 12 hours. Misting is encouraged but only to complement soaking and should not replace it. A precise watering regimen depends on your climate and the seasons. If you are feeling really hot and parched, your plants could probably do with some extra water love too :) Add airplant fertilizer to your water once a month!

Let plants dry thoroughly in a warm area with air circulation, such as near an open window, heater, or outside. Plants should not take longer than 4 hours to fully dry to avoid rot. This shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't water at night! If you choose to dry outside make sure they are not in excessive direct, hot sunlight or they could dry out!

Outside of a greenhouse, airplants usually take a long, long time to grow. Ideally, they will grow through their containers as well due to the set's open design, incorporating it rather than outgrowing it. If you do have this problem pat your self on the back because you are taking excellent care of your plants! Also let me know and I will gladly send you a replacement piece and plant :)

Enjoy it! Airplant blooms have proven difficult to predict and do not happen often as it is only once in the life of a plant. Some bloom when medium sized, others when very large. Airplant blooms come in a beautiful array of colors and styles that can last for weeks or months. Soon after, the plant will begin to develop up to 12 baby "pups" plants that will sprout from the bottom of the plant. Once they reach 1/3 the size of the "mother" blooming plant, they can be removed from the mother, which will slowly die. I don't expect this to happen often but if it does contact me and I will gladly get you a new plant! So enjoy the flower, and the pups!

I'm not sure. Contact me and I'll look into it. Some countries have very protective flora and fauna restrictions to protect their natural ones.
