Gorgeous and super soft huacaya alpaca (light fawn and white) was hand blended on my blending board with ecru merino. Alpaca benefits from the addition of other fibers as alpaca has little elasticity or memory and merino provides that in spades! I also added a teensy bit of bamboo (as I adore bamboo) for shine and its marvelous antimicrobial properties and breathability.....and a teensy bit of Starbright nylon for strength. What I then do is pull off the roving from the blending board, spin by hand, dye it using food grade colorants ( food color and/or Kool Aid). I then ply the yarn with this wonderful bright pure white silk thread I found, soak in Eucalan to adjust the pH and set the twist and dry in the MI sunshine!
All told, many hours went into making this custom yarn. This one in particular turned out just LOVELY and soft as can be. Next to skin for all. This skein is approx 14 wpi - I can get an exact wpi for you if needed. Question? Ask!
