Item details

White Sweet Violet (Violet ssp blanda) is a Native Groundcover we love! The Beautiful White Miniature Blooms are Edible and taste like Sweet Peas...They have a light fragrance and delightful Heart Shaped Leaves. It is a must for us in the Herb Garden...and in our Garden Salads!

We are offering Three (3) White Sweet Violet Plants in this purchase!

A bit of plant culture...

So many, many Wild Violets and so, so many warnings against Wild Violets being invasive...We don't believe this is one of them! We have grown this Beautiful Little White Violet for decades and seen minimal reseeding, which we encourage.

This is a native species to the Eastern and Central United States and is viable from Canada south to Texas...and we believe it is often confused with more aggressive species of Wild Violet that are more commonly lavender in bloom.

Unlike other Wild Violets, White Sweet Violet enjoys full sun, poor soil, and can tolerate dry or moist soil with little change to growth habit. It can form a strong mat and crowd out unwanted seedlings...and we often move this Wild Violet to form a natural living mulch for larger plants in the Herb Garden.

This Wild Violet forms rhizomatous clusters of Perennial Bulbs...as you can imagine, the bulbs are small...often less than 1/4 inch in size...The plant is evergreen for us in Central Texas...but may become dormant in the higher zones. This is a cold hardy plant in USDA Zones 3a to 9a.

Foliage is heart-shaped and lightly veined. The Blooms are seldom 1" in size and held up by slightly reddish stems. Slight veining in darker lavender is evident on the primary fall and less prominently on two other petals...routinely the last two petals are white...Slight nodding in the breeze gives a light sweet fragrance!

White Sweet Violet is a Host Plant for several species of the Fritillary Caterpillar and is a must for the Caterpillar Buffet.

These Charming Low-growing Plants are highly attractive to Multiple Species of Wild Bees and Honey Bees.

This Perennial Groundcover reminds us of our Grandmother's Garden and our Childhood. WaWa called these plants Pass Along Plants...because each new member of the Church or Neighborhood received one in a little hand-made pot as a Welcome...Now these Hardy Plants are harder to difficult to find...and what a shame!

Preparation and shipping...

All of our plants are Organically Grown and Chemical Free.

This offer is for three (3) White Sweet Violet plants or rather clusters of bulbs...with top foliage, as well as root system.

This Violet is currently growing in 4" Deep Pots and have well-developed root systems. Top foliage is evident with multiple stems and veined leaf...many are beginning to bloom now.

Excess soil is gently removed from the root system and the roots are wrapped in dampened materials. The root system is then encased in plastic and securely tied.

Each bundle is labeled with common and botanical name.

We ship in the Order of Paid Invoices...and while our goal is prompt shipment of all orders. However shipping delays can occur during period of High Sales (Spring Planting and Christmas) or due to periods of Severe Weather. We routinely do not ship some plants during the Heat of August. If in doubt as to the specific shipping date of the items you purchased, please send us a note!...

We welcome your messages or special requests. We attempt to respond to all messages promptly...sometimes, the response requires a bit of time to research.

Our Growing Philosophy....We propagate through seedlings, cuttings, and division of well-established plants. We do not use chemicals and allow the plant to establish root systems naturally. This may - or may not - create a smaller plant or a longer growing period than the 'Treated with Nitrogen' plants visible at Big Box Stores.

We do not grow hundreds of any one plant, but prefer to grow hundreds of different plants instead...Numbers of plants are often limited.

We offer many native varieties because we like them and strongly believe that the Heritage of Natives should be retained. We Never collect them from the wild. We grow them from cuttings or seeds from our own Garden and Property.

We ship with excess soil removed from the root system. The roots are wrapped in dampened materials and securely encased in plastic. Each plant is labeled as to the common and botanical names. We ship USPS. We have been using this method for more than 30 years and have found it to be highly reliable...

We routinely ship Plant Materials within the Continental USA. Alaska, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands require additional shipping costs...and we will create a Designated Listing for your additional shipping and handling costs.

We can not replace or refund Plant, Seed or Cutting material that has been confiscated by a governmental agency...regardless of the reason. We can no longer maintain current information on State Regulations for Live Plant Shipment. It is the Buyer's Responsibility to know when a plant is considered "non-shippable" into their state.

Due to USDA regulations, we ship no plants, seeds, or cuttings to Hawaii.

You do not have to be home to receive your package as we do not require signatures. Neither do we mark the boxes with the contents because this gives the US Postal Service the option of non-delivery if no-one is home.

As soon as the plants have been packed and shipped, the buyer is provided with the Label or Tracking Number. we do follow tracking on our shipped items and consider the sale complete when the Tracking Information indicates the package/box was delivered safely by USPS.

Each Plant Sale is unique for us! Each is hand-inspected and hand-packed for shipment. We do not 'anticipate' shipping or purchase the Shipping Label in advance of Shipment. We carry each box to the United States Post Office for shipment to ensure prompt scanning and shipment...and routinely make trips to the Belton Post Office three days a week.

We are shipping a growing number of Fairy Garden Miniatures and Whimsey Internationally when requested. We have had great success with shipping to the United Kingdom, Iceland, France and Australia. Additional shipping costs may/are required.

Our goal is Assist in Growing Your Garden...as well as Ours!
