Offered for sale is a very rare and beautiful large TIFFANY STONE cabochon, also known as Bertrandite, Purple Passion, Opalized Fluorite, and Purple Opal. The name "TIFFANY STONE" resulted from the similarity between this multi-colored stone, which can contain as many as six different colors, and the well known and highly desirable multi-colored Tiffany lamps. This outstanding stone is a mosaic of colors that looks more like an artistic painting than a crystal. This cabochon is highly polished, which is hard to capture in the photos, as is the true beauty of the colors. Photo #2 show the back of the cabochon, which is lightly polished, as well. Collection of this limited material, which has only been found in Utah, has now been prohibited, so all that is left is in dwindling existing stock. This cabochon is ready for being made into a beautiful piece of jewelry, or makes a handy pocket stone, which is the way I generally use them. A pouch will be included for this purpose. Please note that the item in the pictures is the exact item which you will be purchasing.
Over 200 million years ago volcanic activity spewed fine ash over regions of the west desert of Utah. In time and with pressure, gasses, heavy with minerals such as chert, Jasper & Hematite, combined to form the Bertrandite. Together with other minerals of Fluorine, Opalite, Fluorite, Rhodochrosite, etc... Fluorospar & Beryllium Ore became the colorful product. When smeltered, Berylium becomes the lightest weight metal used in space, and for computer chips and in ceramics. The nodules are found in the West Desert of Juab County, Utah.
