Vintage industrial textile cotton weaving mill, wood bobbins originating from the 1920's, sourced from the North of England, where cotton was woven right through the last 2 centuries.
These are very strong and solid bobbins, with the original metal binding at each end. I have seen these made into the wheels for toy trucks and trains for children, as space brackets for scaffold plank shelving, and they stand up to a lot of abuse. I have also seen these made into hanging string despensers, really handy, for garden string or hand-spun twine. Check out pinterest ideas for bobbins.
The dimensions are 7" high, and 3.5" diameter at each end.
Depending on your yarn, you might get up to 100 grams wound on to one of these. They make great display pieces, and gift ideas, if you want to wind your own hand-spun onto them to give away. Check out my other listing for 'Lough Erne' where you will see 73grams wound on to each bobbin, and you can tell from the pic that they would take a bit more. So this is a large bobbin. You might also use this as a prop, shop display for displaying lace, ribbon, or thread on.
