A true fig - it is a relative of the edible fig - it will climb objects 20 feet or more by aerial rootlets. Without something to climb it will spread indefinitely into a short, dense trailing groundcover. Mature leaves are 2"-4" long. Due to its fine attractive foliage, shade tolerance and fast growth rate (once established), Ficus pumila is one of the best vines for creating dense green coverings cascading over walls and from elevated planters. It will form a similar horizontal carpet when there is nothing to climb. It goes particularly well under palms and clump-forming tropicals.
