This Sweet Garlic (Allium sativum x) is a Hybrid of Two Hardy Garlics that have grown well in our Texas Sun and Heat for more than Twenty Years. Several years ago, we realized two of our Favorite Garlics had produced a Third Variety. This is It!
Hardy, Easy to Grow Plants, Great Taste and Healthy Herb...All in One!
A bit of Plant Culture...
The Garlic Plants are an excellent start for growing this Garlic Hybrid in your own Garden...Plant now and harvest in Fall to divide and replant!
This Sweet Garlic Variety is Hardy and Extremely Easy to Grow. We keep large bulbs in the ground year long...and harvest the second season garlic plants that grow from the base of the mother plant. We find this method very productive...especially since we use this Sweet Garlic in so, so many culinary dishes!
The Bulb or Globe is a medium size that can be harvested in the spring or fall. We pull any extra small globes in October and replant for growth over the winter...
The taste is a mild, sweet flavor that does not overpower...even when it has been left in the garden through the Hot Texas Summer!
The top foliage has a sharper taste than the white flesh, but we use sautéed as a leek substitute. The White bulbs or globes can be used in any manner you would use any other garlic...We like to Roast it and then spread it on toast! Sweet and Sassy!
The Buds are also a treasure...We harvest them small and can eat them with steamed vegetables or pickle them for winter...But we do try to leave enough for the Bees and Butterflies. They feed extensively from the blooms once they fully open!
Many years ago, we were gifted with a Family Garlic from friends in Lake County, California. Their family had been growing the Mercer Family Garlic since the Gold Strike Days...and of course, we were delighted when it thrived in our Central Texas Garden.
The next season, we were also gifted an Elephant Garlic brought by German settlers in the mid-1800s. This variety of Elephant Garlic has thrived in the Texas Heat and proved to be an excellent keeper. The Bees chose to merge these two wonderful Garlics and the resulting hybrid has been a stable and delightful addition to our Garden for over Twenty Years.
We grow this Garlic in medium rich soil, full sun and with easy access for quick harvest. The stalks routinely reach 18 to 20" tall and Bloom stalks can reach more than 5' tall...and the blooms are often 8" in diameter. Beautiful bloom for the Bees!
Once harvested, the Garlic Bulbs or Globes from this hybrid last for many months in a dry and cool location....and can easily be braided for a decorative touch from the Garden.
This is a Hardy Plant is USDA Zone 3 through 9 and demands only Full Sun and Excellent Drainage and Benign Neglect.
Garlic is often ignored as a medicinal herb, although historically, its healing and seasoning properties have been celebrated since Early Man. Garlic is one of the first plants used by humans in the treatment of disease.

Shipping & policies
We ship in the Order of Paid Invoices...and while our goal is prompt shipment of all orders. However shipping delays can occur during period of High Sales (Spring Planting and Christmas) or due to periods of Severe Weather. We routinely do not ship some plants during the Heat of August. If in doubt as to the specific shipping date of the items you purchased, please send us a note!...
We welcome your messages or special requests. We attempt to respond to all messages promptly...sometimes, the response requires a bit of time to research.
Our Growing Philosophy....We propagate through seedlings, cuttings, and division of well-established plants. We do not use chemicals and allow the plant to establish root systems naturally. This may - or may not - create a smaller plant or a longer growing period than the 'Treated with Nitrogen' plants visible at Big Box Stores.
We do not grow hundreds of any one plant, but prefer to grow hundreds of different plants instead...Numbers of plants are often limited.
We offer many native varieties because we like them and strongly believe that the Heritage of Natives should be retained. We Never collect them from the wild. We grow them from cuttings or seeds from our own Garden and Property.
We ship with excess soil removed from the root system. The roots are wrapped in dampened materials and securely encased in plastic. Each plant is labeled as to the common and botanical names. We ship USPS. We have been using this method for more than 30 years and have found it to be highly reliable...
We routinely ship Plant Materials within the Continental USA. Alaska, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands require additional shipping costs...and we will create a Designated Listing for your additional shipping and handling costs.
We can not replace or refund Plant, Seed or Cutting material that has been confiscated by a governmental agency...regardless of the reason. We can no longer maintain current information on State Regulations for Live Plant Shipment. It is the Buyer's Responsibility to know when a plant is considered "non-shippable" into their state.
Due to USDA regulations, we ship no plants, seeds, or cuttings to Hawaii.
You do not have to be home to receive your package as we do not require signatures. Neither do we mark the boxes with the contents because this gives the US Postal Service the option of non-delivery if no-one is home.
As soon as the plants have been packed and shipped, the buyer is provided with the Label or Tracking Number. we do follow tracking on our shipped items and consider the sale complete when the Tracking Information indicates the package/box was delivered safely by USPS.
Each Plant Sale is unique for us! Each is hand-inspected and hand-packed for shipment. We do not 'anticipate' shipping or purchase the Shipping Label in advance of Shipment. We carry each box to the United States Post Office for shipment to ensure prompt scanning and shipment...and routinely make trips to the Belton Post Office three days a week.
