NEWBORN DRESS FORM MANNEQUIN (now has 3 month, and 6/9 month options included in this pattern). Includes tips on how to use a doll stand as a mannequin stand.

Here is my newest pattern: it's an easy to follow crochet pattern to create a really cute newborn size dress form.

Ideas for use: Do you have a special little dress you want to display instead of having it tucked away for no one to see, or do you make newborn dresses or infant size dresses? This little dress form is a wonderful unique and affordable way to do that.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Crochet hook in size E or hook to obtain the correct gauge. About 300 yards of #18 Nylon thread (has to be #18 size): there is a great array of colors online. You can find it in white, off white, taupe, or even gray. Or you can use the a STURDY, (Cheap, scratchy kind works best) Worsted Weight yarn.

TIP: You can use #18 twisted NYLON Mason Line found at many hardware stores or online: just make sure it's #18 size, twisted (not tarred obviously). Many shops that sell cord or 'fish netting' also offer #18 nylon SEINE TWINE.

Here are a few links to check out (I'm not affiliated with these shops/links; just helpful tips and resources):

You need the about 20 oz. of FIRM and COURSE DRY fiberfill (I find that Fairfield Crafters Choice, the kind that specifies it dry, course and "packs tightly" works best)-the light super fluffy silky type wont pack in tight enough or firm enough to give you the intended result. Morning Glory Premium works excellent as well.

You will need a yarn needle, and a stitch marker.

Difficulty level: Easy (but does take time and effort, as any crochet project does).

You need to know basic crochet stitches: single crochet, decrease, and increase stitches. Pattern is worked in the round and a stitch marker must be used.

Finished size of newborn dress form mannequin is approximately 8" torso length from bottom of neck down, 16" around widest part of shoulders, and 14.5" circumference of the torso.

Your finished mannequin should accommodate a newborn size garment (5lb to 8lb).

Included in pattern is an option to create a 3 month size or 6/9 month size mannequin:
3 month measurements of finished mannequin are about 18" around circumference of shoulders, and 16" around torso. 6/9 month measurements of finished mannequin are about 20" around circumference of shoulders and 18" around torso.

Also included: tips on attaching a doll stand as a mannequin stand.

I tend to use these type in the link below (not affiliated with my shop; just a tip resource):

***I have made this and found that the newborn mannequin with the measurements specified did accommodate a brand name dress in newborn size (5lb to 8lb). Please keep in mind garment measurements can vary from brand to brand. The measurements are in a range of AVERAGE measurements of a newborn baby and are provided as a guideline: perhaps you find you need to increase or decrease your gauge some if you find that your mannequin needs to be slightly smaller or slightly bigger. ****

Display tip: Find a pedestal type candle holder to prop your mannequin onto (use double stick tape).

Thank you for shopping handcrafted.

This pattern is intended for your personal use only:do not distribute the pattern. Do not sell completed item online, but of course you can use your completed item in your online shop for photos, display, props. Feel free to sell at craft fairs.

FAQs

Although I'm not taking custom orders right now, I do list my original designs and creations periodically. Please frequently check my shop for new listings. I list my whimsical fairy mannequins less frequently since they take many hours to create.

Of course! But if you wouldn't mind giving me design credit in your listing, that would be a lovely acknowledgment.

I sure hope so! However, each persons skill level, creation process, quality and type of materials used, and other factors will likely yield variances in results. In my patterns I specify the suggested materials to be used in order to achieve the expected results. However, as I mentioned, each person brings their own unique qualities to a completed project. In addition, the stuffing process takes time and finesse and you should view the stuffing process as a molding, forming process that will make or break your final creation result. Please send me a convo if you have a question or need clarity on part of crochet pattern instruction. Although I have a 'real' job aside from Etsy, I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.

If you are struggling with a pattern and not having successful results in creating your mannequin head or dress form, then don't hesitate to contact me. It's discouraging to have people leave feedback without discussing any possible solutions first. Like most artisans, I take my designs and patterns seriously and to heart. I want you to be successful to the best of your ability to create an item using my patterns. I've purchased patterns before from other designers and always contact them to have my questions or concerns answered. Feedback is appreciated and is always useful. In today's world of 'feedback' driven commerce, positive feedback is always a goal for me and many artisans who choose to sell on Etsy. Thank you
