This primitive rug hooking kit is drawn on a lovely soft monks cloth backing. It comes with all the wools cut in one quarter inch strips necessary to complete the kit, the pattern, rug binding, a color key, and easy to follow instructions. I can't tell you how many people have taught themselves traditional rug hooking (not latch hook) using these kits.
The pattern measures 7 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches and would make a great wall hanging, table centerpiece, trivet, candle or teapot mat when completed. Lots of people hang these hand hooked mats from old cupboards or make little pillows out of them. The rooster is hooked with a variety of autumn shades, red and brown herringbone. The background is done with a dyed plum accented here and there with a plum plum plaid and the border with a dyed mustard.
If this is your first project the only other items you will need to complete the kit are a frame or hoop to put your pattern into and a rug hook. I started off with a wooden quilting hoop and did several rugs on that before switching to a floor frame. As for hooks I have always used a Moshimer hook and there is an option in the listing to add one to your order for the great price of $9.00. There are larger and more expensive frames available for rug hooking but I think it's best to determine whether you like a hobby before spending too much money on supplies. All of my items come from a smoke free home. If you have any questions please email me and thanks for your interest in my work. If you would like to see how this is done just google primitive rug hooking and you will find several video demonstrations on you tube.
