1 Skein 100% english angora
2 ply--- 1.2oz--- 160 yards---Lace Weight
This lace weight yarn consists of two plies of beautiful baby french angora and one ply of cotton thread beaded with beautiful crackle beads for added interest. Beautiful varied tones of natural grey, baby pink, and soft lavender. The beads look like dew drops in this yarn! I did one scarf project with the matching skein to this and it was so much fun. Loved the way it worked up!
When working with hand spun it is important to pick a pattern based on yardage as opposed to weight as different fibers and fiber preparations yield yarns that can weigh completely different amounts for the same length of yarn. Handspun yarn will also vary a bit in thickness but worked up in a pattern it is not noticable. Just part of the charm of handspun yarn!
Angora yarn is a complete luxury yarn! There is nothing quite like the warmth and softness you get, especially when it's 100%! I have become completely spoiled and almost all yarn I feel now feels course and scratchy compared to my hand spun yarn!
Items crochet out of this yarn will develop a gorgeous "halo" (fuzzy, hairy look) to them. While fuzzy looking, this handspun yarn will not shed like commercial angora yarn, since I let my fiber grow to 3"-5" long on the bunny before carefully clipping it off to leave the longest possible hairs and no short cut bits.
My bunnies are meticulously cared for and given a special diet to help their hair grow quickly and extra soft! They get groomed and carefully brushed or "blown" out for grooming once a week. With the regular, frequent grooming and handling they become quite friendly and sweet! Once every three or four months when the fiber is long enough they get a hair cut (just like you or me) and get to sport a cool crew cut until it grows back again. They enjoy the freedom and coolness after wearing all that heavy wool! After hair cuts they go speeding around, hopping and jumping and twisting in their exercise yard or our living room in complete glee! It takes another three+ months until they have another coat grown again. I then card the fiber on hand carders and spin it on my spinning wheel, and it's ready for use once again, this time as an amazingly warm scarf, mittens, hat, etc :D It's a wonderful, interesting, educational, and exciting process!
Tinkerbell, the adorable stuffed bunny is our shop mascot and not for sale, or included in this listing! She simply helps around our shop, keeping things interesting. She was hand made by Aunt B, who makes adorable stuffed animals, and similar ones can be purchased in her shop :
Note- Our's is an animal loving fun filled house, we DO have cats and dogs who live with us, and are constantly picked up, held, petted, and generally loved on. However they are not allowed to take naps or play in my fiber!!!! (My raw fibers stay bagged unless I'm actually working with them!!!) So it is possible for you to find an occasional stray cat or dog hair in items coming from my shop.
You may want to keep this in mind before purchasing, if you are deathly allergic to some animals...
