Very Rare 1870's Wet Plate Negative Holder - unusual rolling wood dark slide - holds 5x7 inch plate. This one is unmarked - it holds one plate. I don't know much about it - the "dark slide" is made of thin wood slats that roll around from the front to the back. By the mid 1880's most plate and film holders used a solid dark slide much like the modern versions today.
Please email me if you have any info or questions on this piece. It belongs in a museum collection.
Square size 9 1/2" by 9 1/4" and 1" thick - has a notch on the side to lock the holder in place. It can hold a plate in the horizontal or vertical position.
Very nice condition - slight edge wear - the slide rolls up evenly - the wood frame has a few marks but overall in great condition for it's age.
