Here up for sale is 1oz of beautiful english angora fiber that has been dyed to a gorgeous varigated white and blues mix. A bright clean blue that reminds me of those beautiful clear autumn skies with clouds floating in the bright blue sky!
This batch was dyed with professional acid dyes. It has a slight varigation to it as it was kettle dyed. With all my dyed angora fiber I recommend a bit of carding to fluff it back up and open up the fiber lock tips after the dye process to restore it to it's full angora glory before spinning or felting. So you can either lightly card and spin to create a slightly varigated yarn, or pass it through your hand cards several times to even out the color completely. I do both depending on what project I have in mind. This is perfect for spinning alone, or blending it in with wool, alpaca or ??? to create luxury yarns, felt, or other projects.
It was humanely harvested by giving Mr Bunny a sporty, short haircut with my scissors, and storing the fiber in ziplock bags. I'm very meticulous in my bunny shearing and it has very few short cuts (I pick most of them out). It takes me nearly 1.5 hrs to finish a bunny hair cut! It has a staple length of about 2.5-3"
My bunnies are meticulously cared for and given a special diet to help their hair grow quickly and extra soft! They get groomed and carefully brushed or "blown" out for grooming once a week, to every other day depending on their coat length. With the regular, frequent grooming and handling they become quite friendly and sweet! Once every three to six months when the fiber is long enough they get a hair cut (just like you or me) and get to sport a cool crew cut until it grows back again. They enjoy the freedom and coolness after wearing all that heavy wool! After hair cuts they go speeding around, hopping and jumping and twisting in their exercise yard or our living room in complete glee! It takes another three+ months until they have another coat grown again. I then card the fiber on hand carders and spin it on my spinning wheel, and it's ready for use once again, this time as an amazingly warm scarf, mittens, hat, etc :D It's a wonderful, interesting, educational, and exciting process!
Note- Our's is an animal loving fun filled house, we DO have cats and dogs who live with us, and are constantly picked up, held, petted, and generally loved on. However they are not allowed to take naps or play in my fiber!!!! (My raw fibers stay bagged unless I'm actually working with them!!!) So it is possible for you to find an occasional stray cat or dog hair in items coming from my shop.
You may want to keep this in mind before purchasing, if you are deathly allergic to some animals...
