The dimensions of this gemstones are 30 mm x 20 mm x 4 mm deep. This stone weighs 38 carats.
This is a beautiful sea green malachite with very subtle botroydal patterning. The back of the stone is polished and does mostly blue but nowhere near as attractive as the top. It has been filled in spots with cyanoacrylate on the back of the stone. This gem isa nice size for a pendant, possibly bezel set in sterling silver. Since the back is finished it could also be used in a wire wrap design. The soft patterning of the stone and the lighter grass green color making a very unique malachite.
Azurite Malachite is a copper mineral related to turquoise and chrysocholla, in the sense that they are all associated with the ore of copper. It’s the degree of oxidation of Azurite Malachite that determines its’ blue or green color.
Throughout history, this mineral has been used for various purposes other than as a gemstone. The ancient Egyptians used ground Azurite to create the vibrant blue colors seen in their art, and the pharaohs and their queens were known to use it as an eyeshadow. During the Rennaisance, it was the base for paint used by artist’s of the day. It is often found in arid areas of the world and is found in the desert Southwest, here in the US.
Azurite Malachite is also influential in the metaphysical and healing arts. It is said to be effective in clearing and activating all chakras, with a particular emphasis on the heart and throat chakras. Malachite influences the heart chakra, while Azurite has a beneficent effect on the throat. As well, Malachite is associated with the musical tone C, and Azurite resonates with the musical tone D. It inspires spiritual balance and enhances spiritual wisdom and maturity.
As a gemstone, Azurite Malachite is a beautiful combination of color and pattern, often displaying beautiful concentric botryoidal patterns often seen in copper related minerals. It is a somewhat soft gem and care must be taken in wearing this unusual stone in jewelry.
