Item details

Firefly Yarns derives inspiration for our yarns from the colors in nature and photography. "Dandelion" is one of the true signs of springtime. Most have a love hate relationship and some consider this a weed. I, beg to differ, as I love the yellow and the green of this flower. The yarn captures the beautiful brightness of the yellow and the green of its leaves.

Currently, these colors are available on a dyed to order basis and can take 2-3 weeks to receive.

There are currently three different yarn bases that are available for these colors, two are sock/fingering weight and the other is DK weight. Each one is hand washed in Soak, a fine fiber wash and although the yarn is washed, some bleeding may occur with hand painted yarns. Each creation is unique and the yarn pictured may differ some from the one you receive.

Bases:

Platinum Sock:

-75% Superwash Wool 25% Nylon Yarn

-A soft and springy superwash wool yarn with nylon added for extra durability.

-Yarn is very soft due to the springy superwash merino

-Hardwearing, with plenty of springyness, it is great for hard wearing socks, gloves, shawls and jumpers.

-Recommended Needle Size: 2.5 - 4mm needles

-4 ply 100 g with 463 yards of super sock

Alpaca Sock:

-Exceptional blend of superfine alpaca with superwash fine merino and nylon equal a great feeling sock yarn

-20% Alpaca gives the yarn a soft silk feeling and this yarn is not limited to socks, i.e. shawls

-20% Superfine Alpaca, 60% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon

-437 yards in 4 Ply 100 gram skein

Platinum DK:

-75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon

-246 yards in 100 gram skein and is 4 ply

-great for shawls, sweaters, blankets

-the softness of Platinum Sock except in a heavier weight

**These yarns are hand painted and each one is unique. There are no lot numbers and although close as possible, each one may vary; I recommend alternating skeins if you are working on a shawl or other non sock pattern

**With such luxurious yarns, hand washing in cold water and laying flat is HIGHLY recommended (this preserves the beauty of hand knit items)

FAQs

I recommend hand washing all the fibers that I sell in my shop. Superwash yarns can be machine washed; however, hand washing preserves the beauty of your work.

Each yarn is created with professional acid dyes and is washed repeatedly to rid the yarn of excess color. However, some yarns may "bleed" , but this is normal. The bleeding will not affect the depth of the color in any way.

We have a number of different types of bases that we use. For our sock yarn, we have four different bases: Platinum Sock, Alpaca Sock, Blue Faced Leicester (which blends the wool of platinum with Blue Faced Leicester), and our Heavenly Alpaca which is incredibly soft. We are not limited to sock weight yarns! We will have yarns available in DK, worsted, and chunky weight. Blends of alpaca, merino wool, cashmere, and even yak will be available.

My yarns do come from both a dog and cat friendly home; however, my yarn studio is in another wing of my house where the animals do not go.
