These unique paper beads were handmade by 7 women working in a Haitian brothel. Working in the brothel is an extremely difficult life to say the least, with terrible pay. Earning an excellent, livable wage creating paper beads has provided an opportunity for these women to leave the brothel and make a better life for themselves!
100% of the profits from your purchase go back into this artisan program so that a life of "Libète" ("liberty") can remain possible. Your purchase makes a difference!
These multi-colored beads are available in sets of 100 or 500. The ladies hand-make the beads by cutting recycled magazines and catalogs and rolling them into shape, then sealing them with a varnish. Each bead is completely unique - no two are alike! Your beads will come with a tag, signed by the artist who created them.
Please note that these beads are coated with varnish but should not be worn in the shower or when you swim. They are made from paper, so they shouldn't be exposed long term to water.
*Need certain colors? Feel free to leave a note on your order and I will do my very best to accommodate you! (i.e. pastel beads only, mostly black & white beads, etc).
