Handcarved Tagua Nut Octopus, Handsigned by Ricardo of the Wounaan Indians in South America. This is a Fabulous Work of Craftmanship! All Handcarved! Perfect for a Focal Pendant on a special necklace or to add to one's Octopus or Sea Creatures Collection! :-D
A Tagua Nut is cultivated from the Palm Trees in the South American Rainforests. It is also known as a vegetable ivory. It is an extremely HARD nut used for detailed carving.
India Ink is used on the top side of the Octopus to show the eyes (which are the warm ivory color of the Tagua Nut itself), the black pupils, as well as the shading around the eyes. On the underside of each Tentacle are grooved carved suckers. It is a very detailed piece of artwork!
On the bottom in black India ink, is the artist's signature. It reads "Ricardo, M.N., PMA and 4/3-02". The first word is the artist's name, next their tribe initials (M.N.), then the abbreviation for Panama (PMA), and the date of the carving.
Any of the open spaces can be used to thread your beads through to hang on necklace.
Any imperfections are the result of the hand carving, which make the piece that much more unique.
