Our 2017 Fall Fleeces are cleaned and ready for purchasing.
This fleece seen above is a white Shetland fleece (black, brown and beige fleeces also available) and averages a 5” staple length, with a total fleece weight of 4 pounds. Shetland fleece has a nice uniform crimp, a medium staple length of 4 to 6 inches, with a low lanolin content.
They hail from the Shetland Islands just north of the coast of Scotland. They are considered a primitive breed of sheep and are typically smaller sheep in size. Shetland wool became famous from Shetland sweaters sold at L.L. Bean and Lands’ End. Shetland fleeces come in many varied natural colors ranging from pure white to shades of gray, (light grays, blue-grays, steel gray), shades of brown (fawns, golden browns, reddish browns, grayish browns, dark browns) and black.
Hand raised, processed and cleaned in Historic Hudson Valley of New York. Shetland wool is great for spinning, felting or any other type of wool products. It has been hand cleaned, skirted and washed allowing the locks to stay in their original form. Samples are available if you'd like to be sure this is the fleece for you!
Shipped fast. Lovely wool. I'm using it as part of my Living History display of wool and wool tools at the Albuquerque Renaissance Faire.

Lovely fleece! It is very clean and washed well, so I think it will be a good introduction for me learning how to process wool. Thanks so much!
