This is a NATURAL gem turquoise cabochon from the Carmelita Claims which lies just north and to the east of the Royal Blue Claim at Royston, Nevada. I personally work and operate these claims with Richard & Helen Shull of the Esmeralda Turquoise Company and we produce a very limited quantity of this material. You won't be seeing this material any other place as we are the sole source. It's perfect for the person who collects samples from American turquoise mines....
Five years after JL & UG Workman located the Royal Blue and other claims in the Crow Springs District on the Esmeralda/Nye County line of Central Nevada, a young German immigrant named Oscar Wehrand located the AZTEC claim on May 10, 1908. Over the years it has changed hands as different people and companies worked the many claims in the area. Often the quality of the turquoise produced was reported as soft and porous but gem grade deposits do exist on the claims. In 1999, over ninety years after Wehrand located his claim, I had a chance to locate his old Aztec and several other claims in what had become known as the Royston Turquoise District. My claims were named after my ex-wife Carmelita. The "Carmelita Pit", which produces a wide range of quality stone in a variety of colors, was actually located on what had once been Lee Hand's Royal Blue #7 claim. The four Carmelita Claims are now the oldest active mining claims located in the Royston Mining District. The claims have both a rich and diverse history and we are indeed privileged to be able to bring these special and rare stones to the world. The mine is often misspelled Oscar Wehrend.....
This cab measures 25.2 mm x 16.6 mm x 6.8 mm, weighs roughly 23.1 carats and is backed with Devcon (aka Plastic Steel) for strength.
We mined the material for this cab in Nevada and later cut the stone in my Southwest Gem Studios in Nevada and New Mexico..... I've handled this cab from the bedrock to finished cabochon and guarantee it's provenance.
I will be very happy to combine items to save you money on shipping.
Thank you for looking, Philip Chambless & Southwest Gem
I live in a remote area of Western New Mexico and only make it to a Post Office once every week or two. For that reason I will be using the USPS pick up service quite a bit. This means that many items will be shipped priority mail with delivery confirmation. If there is some flexability in timing, I'll always send packages as economical as possible. I'm very aware that if my shipping costs are reasonable, I'm more likely to keep you as a return customer.
Without a doubt my first choice for payment is PayPal, US currency only. I will also accept money orders, but it must be recieved before I can ship the item. I'm afraid I can't afford to do layaway and if you're a New Mexico resident, I have to add state sales tax. If there are any questions, please don't be afraid to ask before shipping, it'll probably save us both valuable time and effort. I try to be correct in my descriptions of size, length, materials, etc... but when in doubt, lets make sure we are both on the same page. I want us both be happy with our transaction. If you must cancel an order, just try to do it as soon as possible.
Returns & exchanges
I'll always try to keep you as a satisfied customer. I do ask that if there is a problem, please return the item within a week and we will either exchange it or give a refund. It's very important that the returned item must be unaltered in any way. Sometimes people try to return an item after it's been damaged or resized and I'm afarid that will void the return/refund policy. If something doesn't fit or doesn't work for some reason, contact me and we'll try to make it work for both of us.....
The key is communication. When in doubt ask me. If you are looking for something special, I may have it or be able to make a custom piece for you.
