In African countries, the bright, hand-printed textiles called kanga are worn by men and women, as street wear and sleepwear, and even fashioned into slings for carrying babies. Generally, a kanga consists of two rectangles, which can be worn together or split to share with a friend or loved one. The name comes from the local word for the guinea fowl, a noisy, social bird with spotted, black-and-white feathers.
This cotton kanga panel has a bold red and black design (traditional colors for brides in some cultures, and for healing in others) of flowers, leaves and waves interspersed with a mod-looking beehive pattern and the signature dots. With its engineered design, it would make a fantastic tablecloth or bed topper. Or just wrap it around your waist and go like they do in Malawi, where it was made.
44"W x 72"L.
Unhemmed, with cut edges on the short sides, selvage on the long sides.
