This is my first venture into spinning alpaca yarn. The lovely fleece which is pictured comes from my new friend Daisy who lives with her new llama friends and another alpaca at Creekside LLamas. She is petite and has fine, soft light fawn fleece.
This skein of yarn is 50% alpaca and 50% white Shetland sheep wool. It weighs 3.4 ounces or 92 grams. It is 2 plys, one of alpaca and one of wool. The texture is soft and the weight is approximately DK weight or number 3. It will knit up well using sizes 5 - 7 needles. There is sufficient yarn for a narrow scarf, a hat, mittens or cowl. And oh so warm!!!
As with all of my yarns it was spun on my Kromski Minstrel wheel. I cleaned the fleece, thoroughly washed it, carded it, spun it and washed the resulting yarn. It is absolutely ready to knit or crochet.
