Item details

Celebrated during Japan's Golden Week, Kodomo No Hi (Children's Day) is an annual occasion dated on the 5th day of the 5th month. This special day celebrates children, their happiness & strength while respecting their diverse personalities. It is also a day to express gratitude towards mothers. Traditionally, carp wind streamers called Koinobori are raised on this day, with a position order beginning with a Magoi (black carp) representing the father, followed by Higoi (red carp) for the mother & smaller varied coloured streamers denoting their ages & gender for each child in the household.

We gave our Koinobori a modern twist with sock-like construction. In an effort to reduce & reuse, we used toilet rolls as the core to hold the wind blown shapes the actual streamers make. All so you could always have this cultural infused keepsake in the house throughout the year.

The pattern is also flexible that you could make more, turn them into a fishing game or simply string them together into garlands instead of attaching it to a pole. They will surely make fantastic props for children's parties or inject some colours in room decors.

The patterns & designs are intended solely for private use only. I kindly ask of you to refrain from using, distributing, reproducing any patterns or making the knitted products with the intention of profit making. However, if you wish to use the patterns or sell finished products based on the patterns for charity purposes, I am more than delighted to allow it. I would appreciate it if you could write in to me for consent prior to proceeding. * Contact me if you don't knit but would love to have an item made based on those patterns.

If you wish to have something made especially for you be it based on one of my patterns or something else (e.g : winter scarves, hats, toys or other knick knacks), do write to me via chitchat@pashknit.com & I shall see to what I could assist you with.

While all of the materials used to make the toys are clearly indicated in each listing, I use mostly premium & soft acrylic yarn. I choose to use acrylic yarn as it is particularly durable for the toys' purposes & lessens the chances of triggering allergy reactions, just in case a child is very sensitive to wool or cotton. It also has a fuss-free nature that most parents would be appreciative of. * All materials used are recyclable, one way or another.

Each finished product comes with a specially made packaging of its own & is listed or shown in its individual listing. I am definitely more than happy to accommodate gift wrapping requests for special occasions! If you would like me to assist with the wrappings, leave a note during checkout or immediately contact me after purchasing so I could prepare for that. However, do bear in mind that the type of wrappings & finishings would vary from time to time, so it is best to contact me personally to find out.
