FAQs

For a more comprehensive understanding of size please message me directly with any questions or view my Instagram.com/Off.the.hook.mamma as some makes are photographed with other objects such as my daughter for scale. Mermaid fin sizes are as listed and are always much larger than imagined and much more beautiful than pictured.

Most items I create are made from Acrylic fibers and in most cases can be machine washed and dried on low settings. However if you own an old machine it may be benificial to either hand wash it or bring it to a launderer to be laundered as each piece is one of a kind. If your item includes cotton or wool fibres washing in any machine may cause shrinking. Cotton has a tendency to shrink up to 10% while wool can felt and shrink up to four sizes. Any item created with natural fibres will have an indication of such in the listing. Aswell, if you prefer a certain fibre you may request it. My suggestion for washing would be to bring natural fibres to a dry cleaners for professional cleaning, or handwash and lay flat to dry.

I love offering clients the option of custom and personalizing their orders, I currently have some listings you can jump off of but if you have a specific idea in mind I would love to hear it! Please send a description and photos if you can as well as an explanation of colour/style if the design requires further explanation. If there is any confusion however I will ask.

YES! I'm a mother, I know from a lot of pre baby research and real life experience what is safe and what can be potentially harmful. I typically do not add buttons to items (unless requested) I also offer sewn on and secure embroidered felt eyes rather than "saftey" eyes which can have the tendency to break off, pop out or if incorrectly tested become a choking hazard. All of our pieces are made in a clean home studio, smoke and pet free environment and I run a low scent household. If your item is washed it will be washed in unscented cleaner and I suggest you do the same. If your item is unwashed when received I suggest you wash it as the detergents and agitation will loosen the fibres and create a more comfortable & soft fabric.

Honestly, for the money spent on one size of a pattern, I am pretty disappointed. While I did manage to make one of the tails, it was with a lot of tweaking and guess work, on my part. The rounds did not include stitch counts and the start and end of rounds did not match up with the previous round. It left me guessing if I was supposed to finish the round I was working on before or after the start of the previous round. At the end, when it finally did give a stitch count, I was way off and ended up having to rip out several rows to adjust the pattern (skipping 2 sts instead of 3 for part of the pattern) so that I would have enough stitches to decrease correctly at the end. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this for beginner/intermediate crocheters sense there is a lot of innovating along the way.
