I confess that this is one of my new favorite hat patterns. I just made it up on the fly, wanting something that would match the brioche in a scarf in my shop. But it's dead simple, and fun to knit. You could try different colors for the ribbing, the bands or the crown. Send pictures, I'd love to see what you make with it.
The first time I tried brioche, it was written without using Brioche Notation, and that is how I have written this pattern. So if you've never tried brioche before, this is an easy way to learn. If you know brioche already, you shouldn't have any problems translating.
The pattern is in PDF format, so you can download it and begin knitting right away.
You will need two sets of circular needles, sizes 9 and 10.5, one set of DP needles, size 10.5 to close the crown (unless you use magic loop), and a darning needle to finish it. The hat takes about 200 yards of a worsted/aran weight yarn.
