Item details

I designed The Isabella Romper for my 10 month old daughter. I had two family celebrations on the calendar for February in Australia. I expected warm and sunny weather (and I wasn’t disappointed!).

I have designed this romper to be flexible with sizing, having elastic at the back, and the ability to use either the short or long legged design. The back bodice has a looped tie, which forms a gorgeous bow on one shoulder. This is balanced by the gathered roundness of the legs and bows at the leg openings.

Comfort and practicality were focused on during the design process. The waistline is high, so as not to expose the nappy at the back. The shoulder tie is easily undone, and the garment can then be pulled down to change nappies. No button, snaps or zips! Once the leg bows are tied, they shouldn’t need to be undone again- leave them loose enough to get feet out.

Styling tips!

I remember the night I discovered an amazing category of fabric in 2015… the African wax print! I had a manic rush of purchases that same night, which has resulted in a stash of 6-yard cuts of beautiful, bright and bold prints in my sewing room. I designed this pattern to work with the fabric, and highly recommend it to you!

I also adore Michael Miller prints! This pattern is perfect for using single and double-border prints (often found in patch-work/quilting shops). You can see an example of this in the instruction images.
Try second-hand sheets, skirts and shirts for a vintage “up-cycled” look.
