Have you ever gone to the beach and there are no shells to be found? This happens to so many people, and It can be very disappointing. If you're lucky and find some shells you may not enjoy the whole process of washing them and preparing the whole painting set up. No worries! I live near the beach, so I'm always checking for a "good shell day." My kits have everything you need to start painting, so setting up is a breeze!
Clam shells are perfect to paint. We are not allowed to take rocks from the beach, and I don't like to take little shells that will be a home to another creature someday. I choose to take clam shells that will not be used again and are legal to take from the beach. It's a great way to recycle the abundance of clam shells in Maine.
My process is simple; I rinse the shells off at the beach, wash them at home in a bucket of dish detergent, sun-dry them outside and wash/sandpaper smooth and once again sun dry, rinse/dry again! It's a process, but my shells are nice and clean-ready to paint. I have a great deck that gets plenty of sun :)
Shell painting kits make a great Maine gift for yourself or that special person, Get ready for some creative fun with a paint-a-shell kit or just some shells without the painting supplies.
