A friend of mine showed me some European crochet shawls called working shawls, with very short back and longer sides that could be tied so working women could wear shawls without losing them. I loved the idea, and who works more diligently than my mother? So I dedicated this working crochet shawl pattern to her for Mothers’ Day.
The base of the crochet shawl is worked in short rows with an increase every fourth row. You’ll add the shoulder straps to the top of the shawl base, and then you’ll work a ribbed edging around the entire shawl. While this shawl uses few stitches, it suits an advanced beginner or early intermediate crocheter because of the increases, decreases, and fptr/bptr to create the ribbing.
