The Sweet Thai Basil plant, also known as Thai Basil or Asian Basil is a type of sweet basil native to Southeast Asia that has been cultivated to provide distinctive traits. Its flavor is more stable under high or extended cooking temperatures than that of other sweet basil varieties, making it the perfect basil choice for Asian cooking.
Sweet Thai Basil has green 2" long leaves with a spicy, anise-clove flavor and a hearty aroma that compliments the hot spicy flavors of Asian cuisine. When flowering, it has attractive purple stems and blooms.
Pick the leaves and use fresh or dried in Asian stir-fry dishes, any tomato dishes, pasta sauces, vegetables and soups. You can also use it in the garden as a companion plant to repel aphids, mites, and tomato hornworms.
Place plants 12-18 inches apart in a partial sun area ( they can tolerate full sun if needed) It requires a rich well-draining soil with adequate watering ( basil does not need as much watering as other plants, just regular watering) On a growing plant, pinch out growing tips to encourage bushier plants and to delay flowering and seeds.
Plants will grow 12 to 24 inches tall, and will supply you with fresh basil until frost. If you allow the flowers to grow and go to seed, your basil growth will stop, though the purple stemmed flowers and seeds are a great addition to dried flower arrangements.
Plants will be shipped priority mail. We will watch the weather to see if shipping to your area is viable. Temps in the 20's and low 30's aren't good for live plants. If you order, we will ship quickly or be in touch. Shipping to continental US only.
