K or 6.5mm wooden crochet hook, ergonomic, cypress wood, chemical free, handmade, natural wood crochet hooks
This is a 6.5mm or K hook made out of cypress wood, I purchased it already hand turned, with the shape already cut into it. It had a finish on it and was rougher than I liked.
So I then sanded all the finish off, shaped the hook to my liking, smoothed it all the way to 3,000 grit sand paper and then used polishing paper for a satin smooth finish. From there I conditioned and polished it with beeswax. This hook is perfectly smooth, and completely chemical free for those of you that have sensitivities as I do. Love the feel of polished natural wood rather than having artificial finish applied to my hooks. Then my husband added the last touch my burning the hook size into the handle with his wood burning tool. This process has made these hooks completely all natural with nothing to wear off.
The story of how I got to hooks.
I had been trying to compile the perfect collection of ergonomic wooden crochet hooks for myself. I became disabled in 2,014 and found crochet as something I can do with my new limitations. The wooden hooks help with joint pain and the larger handles allow me to hold them without pain.
I have looked at many hooks and it's been hard to find just the right wood, hook shape, and price.
I stumbled upon a seller that was hand turning hooks and selling them at a very good price.
The hook shapes looked good so I took a chance. When they arrived the shape was nice, but they were not very smooth and they also had a strong smelling lacquer on them.
I was a bit disappointed, but then it hit me to refinish them and add the finishing touches to acquire the perfect hook shape. I enjoyed doing it so much that I purchased a bunch of these hooks with the purpose to refinish them. Then I will have my perfect set and sell the extras here on Etsy, so others may also have affordable perfect hooks.
