Large smooth skinned flavorful tomato that is a wonderful addition to any food either served fresh or cooked.
Incredible productivity, and perfect large red fruits make it an instant garden hit

The Big Boy hybrid tomato made its debut in 1949, and was an instant success due to its incredible productivity and gorgeous, perfect, large red fruits. The Big Boy tomato has since continued on being one of the most successful tomatoes thanks to its delicious aroma and meaty, rich flavor. The fruits weigh in 10 ounces with many reaching 1 pound or more.

This is a big, sandwich-type slicer with smooth, bright red fruit and a flavor that everybody likes, but it does equally well being used in cooking sauces, pasta dishes, soups and stews too. Place plants in a full sun location18-24 inches apart. Big Boy Tomatoes require a rich normal well-draining soil with 1-2 inches of water weekly, after established. When planting these and all other tomatoes, plant to a soil depth just beneath the first set of leaves.

That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root, thus a stronger plant. Don't water too late in the evening. You want the plants to dry thoroughly before night. Too many problems with fungus start when you continuously water tomatoes late in the evening. Stake or cage these tomatoes as they grow tall and hold a heavy load.

These healthy 5-7 foot tall vines will bear heavy mid- season, and will continue to produce into the fall, though not as heavily. Expect harvest 75-85 days after seeding. They will produce until the frost.

Plants will be shipped priority mail. We will watch the weather to see if shipping to your area is viable. Temps in the 20's and low 30's aren't good for live plants. If you order, we will ship quickly or be in touch. Shipping to continental US only.
