Sapphire blue and deep black hand dyed wool, carded with white tencel and firestar, combine to make Midnight Sparkle. This 3-ply yarn is made by handspinning using the chain ply method.
The making process: I began by dyeing New Zealand merino a deep sapphire blue, and dyeing hand-cleaned Oregon Lincoln Romney locks black. Then I hand carded them together with undyed firestar nylon and Tencel for sparkle and shine. Once the fibre was all carded and wound into what I call "fibre cinnamon buns," I spun it on my pedal-driven wheel. The finished yarn was washed in environmentally-friendly shampoo, and hung to dry in the fresh air.
The result in a yarn that is both soft and durable, beautiful, with minimal environmental impact.
