Item details

Here is a vintage Hoot-Nanny No. 1 Magic Designer Spirograph Kit in its original box. The 1950s box is in bad shape, but this vintage metal, drawing toy, or tool is in very good vintage condition. Made by Howard B. Jones in Chicago Illinois U.S.A.

The last picture is not the actual Hoot-Nanny I am selling, but another one to show you how it works. The Hoot-nanny I am selling here and now is in better condition than that one, but I don't have time to make more drawings. There are no instructions and no paper circles with this Hoot-Nanny. But you don't need the instructions - it is easy to use and you can cut your own paper circles.

It’s like a spirograph, but more complicated, with more freedom to make various repeating shapes. Mathematical in its design it has three points that can be changed so the artist can draw unlimited designs.

Watch a video here to see it in action -

You are supposed to place two fingers on those dimples with one hand and crank with the other. Because of the location of the dimples, the pressure on them both holds the pencil against the paper and holds the arms on their pegs. You soon learn just what the right pressure is and can crank out all sorts of beautiful spirographs.
