A set of three American Hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana) bowl blanks for wood turning. Also called ironwood or musclewood. A very small slow growing tree that yields a very hard, dense wood. The wood is a fairly uniform cream color with an occasional brown streak. This a superb turning wood with its fine grain able to hold excellent detail. Turning is one of the few ways to effectively work with this wood as the extremely wild and interlocked grain can cause problems when used in joinery.
These blanks measure 5 1/2x5 1/2x2 with one of the blanks being a tad deeper. These blanks are largely free from flaws and have only a few tiny knots. 36% moisture content and sealed in Anchorseal.
