Item details

This Mini Horns of My Dilemma carved mother of pearl crescent bead is a drilled 20mm version of one of my most popular bead designs.

While I chose the name for the listing here, double horns or crescent moon are names also used to describe this potent carving.

I have more stock of these on the way. Please convo me for details.

This piece is carved both sides with a smooth curved surface, and is drilled top to bottom with a 1mm hole through the mid-section, as you can see from my photos. (Click the arrows on the left or right or the photo to scroll through the various images.)

The colours are mostly white and it is unlikely that you'll get any of the yellow that is shown in some of my photos.. Some look ethereally "clear" in my photos but the colour is generally more dense.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only.

PAYPAL is my preferred method of payment. Don't have it? You can still pay that way using your credit card. Just click on the PayPal icon at checkout and follow the prompts.

Unfortunately, it's not possible for me to supply beads bigger than 20mm in mother of pearl.

This carving is also available in bone, and black horn, with or without a hole.

BACK STORY
Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

A little smaller than anticipated, but totally worth it. This works wonderfully with my casting set. The spares are very much appreciated in case it breaks in casting. But the tips have worn down a tiny bit with no hint of breakage. Thank you so much for these pieces!
