Wow, what a rare find! Stunning, original, interior door lockset made by " P.F. Corbin Mfg. Co." of New Britain, CT during the 1870's or 1880's. The set includes 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, an iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 bronze strike plate, and a spindle with 2 setscrews. All bronze parts are made of solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not flimsy stamped, pressed, or wrought bronze nor plated iron/steel. The lock is reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door.
The set was salvaged from Western Vermont. We found the parts with a dark, rich, original patina which we didn't want to disturb by cleaning. If you prefer your hardware bright and shiny, we could clean and polish all parts prior to shipping for an additional $25--email us after the auction if you're interested.
The set was also found in great condition. All parts are free of breaks, cracks, chips, gouges, or heavy scratches. The lock was opened, inspected, and we sprayed grease on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. Most antique locks have 1 tumbler; this lock has 3! This lock was certainly the top of the line during its time. Since its so sophisticated, it takes much longer to modify a key by hand like we do. We made a key to operate the lock and we could make more for $15/key--email us after the auction if you're interested.
Parts this old are getting harder to find, and complete, functional, locksets in such impeccable condition this old are extremely hard to find--don't miss out!
