✂ --- Regional Customs (Tehuana dress)
Regional customs or Tehuana dresses, as it is commonly called, are a set consisting of a huipil blouse and a “enagua” skirt sewn at the bottom with “olán” (white holland lace or pettitcoat). These are the dresses that the painter Frida Kahlo used to wear and are part of the traditional clothes of the Zapotec towns of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (located in Oaxaca, south of Mexico).

Therefore, the women of this region are commonly known as TEHUANAS, who usually wear these dresses at Patronal feast or at night parties, known as “velas”.

Both the huipil and the petticoat have the same design that can be of flowers or chain-stitched. The creation of a regional costume can take several months of work, because the artisans have to paint the designs on the fabric and then embroider the flowers or fill the patterns of the ”cadenilla”, or make both designs, on both sides of the huipil and throughout “enagua”.

Finally, the regional costume becomes a work of art, because in its strokes and embroidery is the love, joy and effort of a whole people.

▲Traditional contemporary clothing
Traditionally, huipiles are used in conjunction with a enagua (skirt) that according to the festivity they attend is a different model. It can wear the white “olan” (holland lace or petticoat) sewn at the bottom of the skirt.

Currently, the huipiles are combined with contemporary clothes to create a more casual style or even these can be worn with more formal clothes for party.

The huipiles can be used loose or tight; long or short, according to taste. These can be tailor-made just by sewing the sides and the length. The huipiles are combined with skirts, jeans or other clothing. The combination can get a casual or elegant style, you decided.

FAQs

You can request a special model of huipil, either size, color or design. Due to the handmade nature, it takes around 1-4 months to be ready. In addition, these products no refunds.

The huipiles usually come closed sides as any blouse, with the measures indicated in the descriptions. You can usually undo and adjust to size. Some huipiles can be larger, others more smoll can do. Some new huipiles are open on the sides so they are sewn tailored to each person. Also, they are sometimes closed neck. If you wish to open them, just let me know.

It is very easy to wash and save these beautiful garments: I recommend washing the huipil with neutral sopa, without chlorine and dry in shade. To save it, you can hang up or always bend backward, to care for and preserve the threads and fabric

You can ask the prices and promotions I have in the purchase of two or more huipiles.
