Turquoise!! This fabric has a bluish tint on my computer screen, but it is definitely turquoise. The color is striking and the design is fabulous. It is a very high quality Guatemalan Ikat fabric. It is 100% cotton and was hand woven on a treadle loom in the highlans of Guatemala. It is a medium weight and would work well for lots of different projects. It would make a great skirt, ring-sling carrier for a baby, or light weight upholstery.
Weaving is a tradtion in the Mayan villages. Children learn the art form from their parents. It is said that the Mayan people were given the gift of weaving from the goddes Ixchel.

All the fabrics on this site are 100% cotton hand-dyed and hand-woven in Guatemala. The regular fabric is 36 inches wide. The fabric is not cut until you buy it. When you order multiple yards, you'll receive your fabric in a continuous piece.
Since these fabrics are hand woven there might be slight imperfections. These are characteristics that make the fabric stand out from machine made fabrics.
The corte pieces are different widths. The width of each one is in the description.
Fabrics should be prewashed before sewing with them. Edges of the fabric should be zigzagged to prevent fraying. Fabrics should be washed with like colors in the washing machine on the gently cycle with a warm wash. In order to ensure that colors don’t run, add 1 teaspoon of the fixative, Retayne, for every yard of fabric. Remove fabric from the machine right after the final spin cycle. Dry in the dryer until damp dry using the coolest temperature. Fabric should then be hung up to finish drying.
Retayne can be ordered on-line from any number of sites such as Joanne’s or Amazon.
