Handmade Black Linen Cord for Necklaces and Bracelets, Hand-plied in 2, 4 or 8 strands. These cords are made to order using vintage Irish black linen thread that starts out with 6-plies itself, so these cords are really quite strong. Each cord is about 5 feet long.
The two-strand cord is about 1 mm in diameter and can be used to string beads with a 1 mm or larger hole. The four-strand cord is about 2.5 mm in diameter and can be used to string our handmade drops or large hole beads. The eight-strand cord is about 4 mm in diameter and will work with our handmade drops. Because of its heft and look, it works very well with the stone drops (see Paleo Stone section).
Hand-plied cords are unique in that they have a "finished end" (see third photo) which will allow a wire "needle" to be threaded on the cord and makes it practical for many more uses than regular beading cord which has two raw ends.
The other end of the cord is knotted, because hand-plied cords will unravel. This makes it easy to create a fringed end. Simply knot the cord at the length of the fringe and clip the end.
What is Plying? It is an ancient art that far predates the invention of spinning and goes back to at least the mesolithic, so it is "period correct" for the Paleo fan. If you've ever twisted a string until it kinks back on itself, you have experienced plying. Of course, there's more to the art than meets the eye. Because I make these myself, the length is limited by my reach which is just over five feet and I use the plying pattern which gives the cords a prominent texture.
Great communication from the seller. The order was going to be delayed due to weather and the seller was very nice and offered me a refund if I didn't want to wait. I'm glad I waited. It's a beautiful rope that I'm using for a pendant. Definitely need to order more.
