This is a vintage Sears Craftsman Michigan pattern single bit axe that was made by Mann Edge Tool Company. The head of this axe was loose and mounted too high on the shoulder when I received it so I removed the head and cleaned off the rust. I have also reprofiled the edge of the bit. The tongue of the handle has been reshaped so the head will sit lower. The handle has also been thinned to make it fit the hand better. I then applied three coats of stain and six applications of boiled linseed oil to the handle in addition to adding a little paint. This axe has been used through the years but has plenty of life left in it. I made it to use but it would also look good hanging on a wall. The total weight of the axe with the handle is 4 1/2 pounds. Nothing says American craftsmanship like Craftsman tools. This axe is a prime example.
