This is a very nice, rectangular gaspeite cabochon. It has streaks of gaspeite in grey stone matrix. It is a rather matte stone. Gaspeite is a very rare stone. It was first found in the 1960's, in Gaspésie peninsula, in the province of Québec, Canada where it took its name. These come from the original claim, in Lemieux township, in the heart of the Chic-Chocs mountains. Deposits of this stone have also been found in other parts of the world. The third photo shows the back of the stones. It is a rather soft stone (4.5-5 on the Mohs scale), so care should be taken in setting it. It should not be used for a ring or bracelet as it is too soft for such uses.
