A large wood block stamp for printing. Intricately carved with a floral/paisley type motif. The block is so delicate on the printing side and is chunky, solid and rustic on the other. If you look closely at the photos you can actually see the rings from the tree from which the block was carved! It still has the original two big old metal nails that hold the handle on and the handle has been smoothed by years and years of use. I believe from my research that this intricately carved vintage wood block stamp may have come from the Jaipur area - the heartland of Indian textiles and culture. Wood block stamps are used to decorate textiles in a variety of colours and a medley of patterns. Certainly from somewhere on the Indian sub-continent. I have included some pictures that show how the stamp would have been used. Wood blocks are usually made from teak wood and then soaked in mustard oil. The block is then carved by hand by an expert craftsman. Making a wood block is an art that requires patience and skill. This wood block stamp probably has a story to tell. It has passed through several artistic hands and decorated vibrant textiles. It can still be used to stamp paper or fabric, alternatively it can become an ethnic artefact to have on display in your home, a beautiful talking point.
It measures 6in x 5 1/2in, and 2 3/4in deep to the top of the hand grip. It appears to be in good vintage condition. Please note I have not tried to print with it.
All items are posted from the United Kingdom and I aim to post within 3 working days of payment, although if you purchase several items they will take a little longer to package up.
For items purchased in the United Kingdom I use the Royal Mail postal service, or My Hermes door to door, where applicable.
Outside the UK I generally use Royal Mail for lighter parcels or the most competitive courier for heavier parcels. However I may use different carriers to ensure customers get the best shipping rates.
It is important to me to be sure that goods have been delivered successfully to my customer so all shipping requires a signature to confirm receipt of goods.
I package each of my items extremely carefully as they have already survived the rigeurs of time and it would be heartbreaking for them to get broken in transit. I include a small packaging cost in all postage quotes.
If you purchase several items and the shipping works out cheaper I will refund the excess less an amount for packaging.
The price quoted for international shipping is a guide only as shipping costs vary with such large and varied distances involved. I will inform a customer if there is a large discrepancy in shipping costs.
Please note: Customers outside of the United Kingdom and Europe are responsible for any import duties, taxes or any other fees associated with their respective countries.

I want you to be happy with your purchase and will always try to be as clear as I can be in describing the items condition, but please remember that vintage items have been previously used and always have some age and will show signs of this to a greater or lesser extent.
Vintage china, due to its age may have slight imperfections or manufacturing faults, like crazing or rough edges or wearing to the pattern or gilding, which only adds to the charm, but where it is significant I will draw attention to it in the description.
I research each piece of china carefully to make sure it is vintage and determine the maker and approximate age as near as is possible.
To care for your vintage china please wash in warm soapy water and do not place in a dishwasher as the pattern will quickly fade.
