Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paints are made from just 5 all natural ingredients, including milk casein. The same ingredients that have been used to make paint since the pioneer days! This Milk Paint is a 100% natural, zero VOC paint that is completely biodegradable and non toxic. The tester size mixes up to about 1/2 cup of paint and covers approximately 10 square feet. Enough to paint a small project or test the color.
Miss Mustard Seed uses quality ingredients and all natural pigments to make these fantastic colors! It comes in powdered form and can be combined to create your own 'bespoke' colors.
It is not on the color chart, but I stock the newest MMS color - Outback Petticoat. It is a wonderful orange color named by MMS Australian retailers because it reminds them of the color outback women's white petticoats turn as they walk through the outback's orange soil.
I generally have all the other colors on the chart available, except that Miss Mustard Seed has discontinued Dried Lavendar and Apron Strings. Those colors are still on the color chart but are not available in the packaged form. However, you can still create those colors by mixing others together. Let me know if you need the recipes.
I also carry the 1 quart size (covers about 70 square feet).
Milk Paint is a little different than most paints and can be a little tricky at first. But it offers such a lovely matte finish with an authentic old paint look. It certainly is worth a little practice to get the hang of using. Once you do, you will love it. Simply mix this powder with water, following the directions on the package. Because of the chalk, limestone and milk casein content, it can come out a bit lumpy. Give it time to sit and dissolve and then mix some more. For the dark colors, I sometimes strain through a fine strainer. But this is all a part of that natural, old fashioned look that you will achieve with milk paint.
A Milk Paint finish is unique and can range from a solid color to a stain, it all depends on how much water you add. It can be used on any porous surface without a primer. It will never chip or peel on porous surfaces as it soaks in and binds with the substrate.
If you love that 'chippy look' Milk Paint s the best way to achieve it and will give you an authentic chip. Whether or not the paint will chip depends upon the underlying surface. If the original surface is non-porous, such as with a hard poly coat, the milk paint will not sink in and will probably chip. There are tricks to encourage chipping and to discourage chipping. Have fun with Milk Paint, release your creativity, and enjoy the fresh look on your project!
