Item details

Montana Dendritic Agate Designer Cabochon (H-0501)
Cabochon measures 55x28 mm, weighs12.8 grams, Dome is 5 mm high.
It Has a high Glassy Finish
This Cabochon is from my Personal Collection. This particular Designer Cabochon has the Translucent Dark Amber-Carnelian with Soft Black Dendrites in Clear Agate.
The Transparent Agate allows the Black and Carnelian to show Destintively Divided by an Unusual Looking feathered shape of Crystal with a milky White formation lining the side of this cabochon. This cabochon has a Lustrus Glossy Finish and will make very unusual Jewelry.
Montana Agate usually has an almost clear background color with embedded moss formations within varying shades of brownish red to black or cornelian. When you get a real good formation or a nice limb cast many times the cabochon will Iris, which reflects a rainbow of colors. The background often will be milky or cloudy and sometimes white opaque, however when the dendrites or moss formations are in the right place they make a beautiful landscape or lacy like picture. This agate stone produces amazing forms.. Most of these Montana agates are found in gravel deposits in the area of the Yellowstone River and its tributaries.
It is rare to cut a Montana nodule just right and find a lovely large area with no fractures and such an arrangement of dendrites that resembles a tree or scean.
Most Rock Hounds agree that a good Montana Agate is one of their favorite. The Montana Agate has been used for generations in Jewelry of all kinds, from rings, necklaces, earrings and bola’s even on hat bands and ladies purses.
The better pictures’ formed by the moss and dendrites the more expensive the stone. Some have beautiful landscapes of lakes and sun sets or large pine trees and sometimes all of the above in one stone. That’s what makes the Montana Agate so Great; The variation of forms within the rock.
