These trade beads have a number different common names: Dutch Dogon Beads, Dutch Donut Beads and Dutch Annular Beads being the more popular. The names point to the tales that they were made by the Dutch and favored by the Dogon people of central Mali. However, these antique wound glass beads were made in Europe, probably Germany, in the mid to late 1800's.
Although round, they are not completely smooth and even and generally have a small overlapping glass tail that clearly shows how these beads were made. Small air bubbles in the glass is not uncommon either. They were made by hand and are not completely round so these are not for those seeking perfection. They are for those who appreciate the character these old, unique and beautiful cobalt blue glass beads will give to their designs. These are unused and were still tired into a hank when I got them. The scans include the hank I received them on plus some close up scans of them still strung and some loose ones too. The sizes range from 10-13mm in diameter (measured on the outer edge) and you will receive 50 beads (approx. 5.5" strung).
PLEASE NOTE: The photos show more or less beads than you will receive. You will receive 50 beads which are approx. 5.5" when strung.
