MORRIS HEXATHON Historical Hexagon Quilt Along. 26 Hexies. Arts & Crafts theme. EPP or Template Piecing. Paper patterns by mail. $25.00
Barbara Brackman has created a hexie quilt-along of 26 hexagon blocks celebrating designer William Morris's life and work. The theme is a jog through William Morris's England with stops at places that were important in his life and work. The hexie block names come from those places. It's a virtual Morris Tour of England.
You get 28 pages of full-sized patterns for hexagons. All the blocks are based on the 60 degree angles you find in hexagons. Some are old designs & some new. A few have curves and Y seams (not too many.) A few are challenging with many seams meeting in the center (not too many) so the series is a good exercise in piecing from the basics to a real challenge.
The Morris Hexathon was a block of the week on my MaterialCulture blog from May to October, 2016. The hexagon blocks appeared as posts every Saturday for 26 weeks. Becky Brown made the models, which are still visible on my blog. The patterns have links to the pictures.
I designed the blocks to fit on 8-1/2" sheets of printer paper. The sides are 4" long, so in hexie terms these are 4" hexagonal blocks.
Readers stitched along using various methods. You can use conventional patchwork, cutting the shapes as templates. Many used English Paper Piecing method EPP. There’s a paper for every pattern piece on each sheet. You also get two setting patterns.
I will mail you the paper patterns (in the U.S.). I am offering the series in two formats with different pricing:
1) THIS LISTING. I will print these out in black & white and mail them to you. You pay an additional fee for the printing and U.S. postage in a one-time package. $25.
