Genuine vintage Hmong hand woven hemp. Natural indigo dye. Hand drawn batik. The detail in this batik is exceptional, and has taken our Hmong staff hours of skilled work for each yard drawn.

The hemp is grown by the Hmong tribeswomen, dried, and the hemp fiber stripped from the stem and pounded, boiled, spun and coated with wax before it can be strung on an old wooden loom and woven into the finished product.

The inspiration for these batik motifs are derived from the natural environment, and are made with the wax relief method with a natural indigo dye obtained from a flower grown on the edges of the rice terraces.

This was hand drawn and dyed for us by Ba Vo, in the traditional way shown in the last set of images.
