Peridot is the more rare gem quality variety of olivine. The color is olive-green, in various shades, and is usually transparent. The crystals of peridot are usually quite small, as these are, as indicated in the above photos. Sometimes called chrysolite, and in the old days called "Evening Emerald", peridot is a magnesium-iron silicate in the forsterite-fayalite mineral series. The stones have a hardness of 6.5, and is found in basalt and can also be found in some meteorites. Peridot speciments can be found in Egypt, Pakistan, Vietnam, Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Arizona & Hawaii.
What you see in the last photo is exactly one ounce of tiny tumbled peridot stones. These would be perfect for mosaic projects, imbedding in resin, zen gardens, fairy gardens, aquariums or terrariums.
